Lighting the night without a moon?
The under lit effect of the moon on our character was attractive and atmospheric. Now the moon has be extinguished lighting the boy is necessary but illogical. He must be picked out against the black night but as there is now no light source any lighting seems almost theatrical. As he begins to float from the surface of the dimming moon his stark rim lighting contrasts with the naturalist lighting...

A decision on leaving the moon.
After much discussion I have decided that the moon’s light will fade under the boy’s feet. I have tested the effect of darkened the moon’s surface crater be crater and I do not think it’s necessary sinister. As the core of the piece is the transitions and metamorphosis only possibly in a dream state this change of landscape seems in keeping. The dream is starting to break...

Leaving the moon?!
In the initial storyboard the character jumps off the moons surface, floats towards the surface of the sea and floats in limbo - balanced between the two gravitational pulls. He arrive on the moon by climbing the long ladder which grew from his boat. Since his arrival the ladder has not been seen and I feel it’s reappearance would be illogical as it is a part of this surreal journey which...

Leaping from crater to crater.
He leaps from crater to crater causing liquid moonlight to splash with every step. His joyful frolicking slows as he is distracted by this strange substance, looking down at it his eyes widen and he bends to touch it. I am struggling to animate this slowing down and sudden interest. A close up of just his face may be appropriate as I have had three shots of his leaping. In these shots the surface...

On the Moon at long last.
I managed to animate the boy rising up off the ladder - the moment when the gravity of the moon overpowers that of the earth. Using a rig and a magic arm the character was fully supported and able to rotate. He lands in a crater with a splash, then looks up at the night sky to see the rising jelly fish for the first time. I want them to have a cosmic presence, loosely resembling shooting stars. I...

UV Jellfish?!
The white LEDs have arrived but give off a ultra violet coloured light. Almost Mauve in fact. This purple tinge is not in keeping with the rest of the dream sequence, I will experience with masking off the jellyfish and colour correcting them separately in After Effects.

Climbing those rickety runges.
I will rig the character, as the ladder is quite weak. I want him to seem weighty so I will have to attach the hands and feet securely on each step. If this is not possible I will have to use cut-aways of his upper body as he climbs. The rig will have to be long as it will be used for the moment of gravitational shift - when he is sucked onto the moons surface.

A sprouting ladder!
I shot the oar growing in reverse, whittling away at the wooden oar and then running the shot backwards to achieve the effect of growth. I will do the same thing to achieve the ladder shot. Starting with a complete ladder I will deconstruct it gradually to create the impression of in sprouting out of the boat when run backwards.

Keeping time.
Animating the oar entering the water in time with the first two beats was more of a challenge than I excepted. As the ambience of the opening of the track is so expansive and has a building sense of momentum, the music never contradicted the shots. Breathing, unraveling, floating. Rowing to a beat relies on a lot more planning and precision. I must keep loading the track into Dragon Stop-Motion...
